"Boxwood Seal For The Wentworth Family. English, 16th Or 17th Century."


A boxwood seal for the Wentworth Family.

English, 16th or 17th century.

Measures 7.8 x 3.6cm.

The seal is engraved with a quartered coat of arms relating to the Wentworth family and bears the owners initials ‘R.W’ to the top of the handle.

Excerpt from the report: ‘Members of the Wentworth family with the initials R.W. in the 16th and 17th centuries were Sir Roger Wentworth of Codham Hall, Essex [d. 1539] and his son Roger Wentworth of Bocking, Essex [d. 1557]. Roger Wentworth of Bocking [1597-1649] the great-grandson of Roger Wentworth who died in 1557 is a third candidate.’

The seal comes with a report on the arms from the Royal College of Arms, Queen Victoria Street, London, EC4V 4BT, January 2000.
