17th Century Flemish School. Venus In The Forge Of Vulcan

Oil on canvas Flemish style frame with inverted profile and blond tortoiseshell veneer interspersed with black guilloche strips. Total dimensions: 42 x 52 cm. The canvas: 27 x 37 cm This charming little painting was executed by a Flemish artist, probably from Antwerp, around the middle of the 17th century. It is the allegory of fire, one of the four elements. Venus asks Vulcan to forge weapons for Aeneas. It is interesting to see on this painting a multitude of small details and in the foreground between Venus and Vulcan, the winged cupid, blindfolded, near a small dog. Beautiful condition.
