"Slaughter Game"
In Morocco. (France. Circa 1905). Format 69 cm wide, 34.5 cm deep, 60 cm high. Plank enclosure on the base and three sides, as well as the interior frame. Five papier-mâché characters appear in two rows: behind two Arab characters, in front three characters: two French soldiers and a Muslim monk. In the bottom, in front, is a receptacle for the balls comprising an anterior vertical band on which are inscribed four numbers (1 2 4 9). Great carnival massacre game. At the base of each character, behind, is attached a small canvas hinge; players had to shoot them down with sound bullets; the position of the balls, randomly distributed, in the lower drawer indicated the points scored. The game testifies to France's designs on Morocco at the beginning of the 20th century, and is undoubtedly contemporary with the Tangier crisis in 1905. Astonishing game of colonialist massacre, in good original condition.
