Painting oil on canvas measuring 85 x 110 cm without frame and 103 x 126 cm with frame depicting a landscape with figures and animals along the path by Gaetano Vetturali.

In the work in question, depicting a large country piece, the youthful poetics of Gaetano Vetturali (Lucca 1701 – 1783), the last epigone of the great Tuscan landscape tradition, are displayed.

The landscape motif, even in the most imaginative lighting, always has a real starting point in Vetturali and therefore a true and human dimension; in this painting we can see this bright and lively green that tries to explain to us how much the nature around us and in which we get lost is beautiful, strong, vigorous but at the same time sweet and docile.

It's wonderful to notice how a tiny group of people is busy in their duties on the one hand but at the same time they seem lost in the serenity and tranquility of this landscape of other times.

Vetturali is a pictorial character from other times, very interesting and known for his complex personality and for a truly eclectic taste in representation.

The canvas shown here is a typical work of Vetturali, an artist from Lucca, who was inspired by the Venetian style above all in the development of the design, albeit with a less shrill chromatic palette, but more calm and resolute in his passages, in his archaeological views with a more concrete taste and adhering to the typical reality of 18th century Lucca painting.

The painting in question is very specific and clearly expresses the painter's style thanks to an extravagant interpretation given to the landscape and buildings of Venetian origin rendered with suggestive effects of scenographic expansion happily lightened by a genuine lyricism endowed with captivating freshness.

A cornerstone of our artist's painting is undoubtedly the use of angular perspective which gives greater monumentality to the buildings and brings grandeur to the scene; another typical feature of the painter is this clear and bright air as well as the elongated figurines captured in various lively aspects and portrayed with great descriptive attention.

The paintings and works of art published here are my exclusive property and therefore are always available to be viewed, by appointment, in my exhibition sites located in Sanremo and Brescia.
