Arman is a French-American artist best known for his unique style of found-object sculptures known as accumulations. Inspired by the philosophy and aesthetics of Dadaism, he brings together accumulations of objects. A member of New Realism alongside Yves Klein and Jean Tinguely, among others, he responded to the emergence of Pop art through his own critique of consumption, waste and mass production. In 1973, he became an American citizen. For his famous and monumental sculpture Long-Term Parking (1982), the artist stacks 60 cars and immerses them in cement, creating an imposing surreal structure. Several monumental works were also commissioned from him for the Élysée, the Gare Saint Lazare in Paris, the Lincoln Center in New York, Dallas, Beirut… He died on October 22, 2005 in New York at the age of 76. His works are today in the greatest collections and museums in the world.
