Object description :

"Pair Of Inlaid Rosewood Chairs, Maison Jeanselme, Charles X Period - Early 19th Century"
Beautiful duo of rosewood chairs and light wood marquetry designed by the cabinetmakers of the Maison Jeanselme, which furnished among others the imperial palaces such as those of Fontainebleau. This stands out during Universal Exhibitions such as that of 1855. We find the stencil mark of this prestigious company on each seat. Each of these chairs has a rounded openwork backrest formed by a stylized cross embellished with light wood inlays forming scrolls and a star in the centre. The curved band at the top is also decorated with marquetry. The sides of the backrest descend in a beautiful curve to the side rails of the seat, thus giving an enveloping aspect to these elegant chairs. These chairs are underlined by strips of light wood following their curves and embellished with flowers. They rest on two front hock legs with volute. The saber rear legs are turned outwards for perfect stability. The rear part of the seat is rounded. This one is squared to allow a perfect balance and an extreme durability. The chairs have a removable seat upholstered in a recent cream and gold silk fabric but can be changed according to your wishes. These Charles X chairs are remarkable for the quality of their wood species and the beauty of their inlays. ******** Period: Early 19th century Excellent condition after restoration in our workshop.
