Silver Cup By Carl Weishaupt
Artist: Carl Weishaupt
Silver cup by Carl Weishaupt, silver mark 800.
The history of silversmithing dates back to 1692 with the Leismiller family being granted a silversmith's right by the city of Munich. The Weishaupt dynasty is represented by Anton Weishaupt (1776-1832), then an apprentice and husband of the granddaughter of Joseph Bonaventura Leismiller. His son Carl succeeded him as supplier to the court of Louis I, followed by his grandson Max II Weishaupt. The commercial success of the firm led him to open a large store at Marienplatz in Munich. When Max II died, his wife, Anna, took over the reins of the company until her death in 1918. The company collaborated with Richard Riemerschmid who gave a famous dinner service.
