Very nice patina of use for this exceptional "mosquito mask" referring to the mythical male spirit called "Parak" or "Brag". The Parak spirit is linked to initiation ceremonies as well as hunting. It is supposed to help the hunter flush out game. The region of origin of this type of mask is located in the Mambe lands, but this typical form has nevertheless been found all along the northern coast of Papua New Guinea, from the mouth of the Sepik to the west, in the eastern regions of Kairiru Island.
