Large enamelled terracotta plate imitating marble dating from the end of the 18th century beginning of the 19th century in high relief representing an angel and an assembly of putti holding a phylactery.the illusion with a thick slab of marble is quite successful and there are brilliant sparkles in the material of the enamel as in certain varieties of white marble.
the condition is excellent.
a plaque to stand or hang.
this assembly of putti is to be compared to the work of François Duquesnoy (1597-1643), a famous sculptor of the 17th century whose childish scenes were his specialty among others.
our work is related to a "concert of musical angels", a marble relief preserved in the Santi Apostoli Museum in Naples.
a very beautiful enamel plate, a work pleasant to the sight and to the touch.
