"Lucien Poignant Chambery (contencin, Wibault, Abrates....)"
Lucien poignant 1905/1941 here a very beautiful work of the painter representing Chambéry under the snow. Signed lower right and located on the back Original frame in natural wood I am constantly looking for and buying the great mountain painters (contencin, wibault, abrate, poignant .....) Lucien Poignant, born in Chambéry on January 23 1905 and died in Lyon on February 11, 1941, he spent his childhood in Chambéry and did his secondary studies there where his father was general supervisor. At the end of his schooling, he entered as a clerk at the prefecture of Savoy, a profession he quickly abandoned to devote himself to painting. He was encouraged in this by his older brother, Doctor Roger Poignant, who encouraged him to exhibit for the first time in Saint-Étienne. In 1930 he married Nancie Belle, whom he met during a competition in which she won a painting by the young Lucien Poignant. Thereafter, under her married name, she became a painter in her turn and evoked their life as a couple in Chambéry in a book of memories, From knife to feather. He died early, of illness, at the age of 36. A funeral oration is pronounced by the Savoyard painter Francis Cariffa. The musician Ernest Luguet performs at the piano in his honor a work entitled Le tombeau de Lucien Poignant. Encouraged by his brother Roger Poignant and especially by his drawing teacher in high school, Marcel Mergier but self-taught, he embarked on a career as a painter very early. At the age of 19, he exhibited his first paintings in Saint-Étienne. This premiere is a success and he will continue to exhibit very regularly in this city, but also in Chambéry (Galerie Janin), and in many French cities: Annonay, Lyon, Lille, Marseille, Nancy, Paris, Reims, Rouen, and Strasbourg. . He will also exhibit abroad, in Switzerland, but also in Brussels, London, and even in Sydney. At the beginning of his career, he was a member of the Artistic Union of Chambéry, which he then left for the Société des Beaux Arts de Chambéry. He became a member of French artists in 1938 by presenting the painting entitled Le Lac de Montriond. He mainly devoted himself to painting around Chambéry and later in the mountains, representing the landscapes and peaks of Dauphiné, Maurienne, and the Chamonix massif as well as Pralognan. He is also cited among the painters of Lac du Bourget. He paints with a knife, a technique taught to him by Joseph-Victor Communal. His painting Le lac de Montriond allowed him to enter the Society of French Artists in 1938. He also painted Corsica and Morocco (Fez, Rabat...). He is a prolific painter; although his career was cut short (17 years) by an early death, it is estimated that he painted over 2,500 canvases. Two retrospective exhibitions of his work have taken place in Savoie, the first organized in Aix-les-Bains in 1995 bringing together 90 paintings and the second in Chambéry in 2005 on the occasion of the centenary of his birth with 28 paintings. His paintings are exhibited at the Museum of Fine Arts in Chambéry.
