"Ukiyoe Japanese Print"
This woman represents the period of Koka 弘化 (1844-1848). This print is part of a series of prints depicting Japanese women through Japanese eras. Above, we see a checkpoint for controlled travellers. This print was made in 1896; Chikanobu Toyohora 豊原周延 (1838-1912), his artist name is also 楊洲周延: Yōshū Chikanobu. He is of the samurai caste and fought alongside loyalists to the shogun.
