History
Jacques Louis de la HAMAYDE de SAINT-ANGE dit "Saint-Ange" (Paris, 1780-1860) was commissioned by Alexandre Théodore BRONGNIART, inspector of the National Furniture, to create designs for the various factories under the responsibility of the Administration. He then began a long career as a painter drawing models for the making of tapestries, carpets and fabrics for imperial and then royal factories, after the fall of Napoleon I. He was appointed draftsman to the Imperial Furniture in 1810, which became the crown furniture repository in 1816. In January 1819, he became draftsman of the bedroom of Monsieur, Count of Artois, future King Charles X. In this position he produced, among others, the designs for the choir carpet of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, commissioned on September 15, 18252. He also made the fabrics for the furniture of the King's bedroom in the Tuileries Palace, commissioned by Louis XVIII in 1817.
