[VAN MAELE] - DIDEROT (Denis) - The nun. Paris, J. Chevrel, 1916; in-8, IX-313 pp., brown half-morocco binding with corners signed A. Blanchetière, smooth spine decorated and mosaicked with a geometric pattern and a nun, gilt head, preserved cover. One of 200 numbered copies on Arches laid paper. Full text published with a preface and notes by Mr. Maurice Tourneux. Illustrated with etching by Martin van Maele. The headings and ornaments are wood-engraved by Eugène Dété. A beautiful image adaptation of Diderot's text, the illustration is sometimes close to the mezzotint, which adds a dramatic effect to the naked bodies of the nun. A fine copy in very good condition.
