Small Uzès wardrobe in cypress wood with a black background opening with two leaves. This wedding furniture has a decor abounding in colorful flowers underlined by a frame painted in red tones. The main panels follow the tradition of the Duchy of Uzès by highlighting the golden number representing the initials of the newlyweds. The lions, feathers and cherubs placed in symmetry of the same golden tone. The small central panels present a medallion with landscape scenes. The sides painted with yellow lines reproducing brass and copper elements are reminiscent of the influence of Boulle marquetry on this type of cabinet. According to Edith Mannoni, specialist in Provençal furniture, the bouquets of multicolored flowers also draw their inspiration from the creations of Boulle. The cabinets of Uzès would therefore be inspired by both Italian and French decorations. The oldest models, like the one we present, have a black or dark green decor. Although we do not know with certainty why this type of furniture is called "Uzès wardrobe", a particularity present in the city can give us a clue. Indeed, the Saint-Théodorit cathedral of Uzès shelters a superb organ which has the specificity of being painted. Having kept its original shutters, we can appreciate its gray and gold hues. Period first half of the 18th century. Original polychromy, small restorations and patchy retouching. Two rear shelves.
