This intimate and charming scene is the work of an artist born in Fourmies, in the North of France, in 1861: Raoul Baligant. Pupil of Gustave Moreau alongside Marquet, Baligant exhibited at the Salon during the first decade of the 20th century. His works show great mastery and a great sense of poetry. The influence of the Scandinavian schools, and in particular of Peder Severin Krøyer, is particularly felt here, both for the theme addressed and for the treatment of light. Baligant's works are rare.
