Large late 19th century painting in watercolor and wash signed Ch BOMBLED (Charles BOMBLED 1862-1927) and annotated lower right with a presumed dedication. Hunting composition depicting a hunting scene animated by riders, huntsmen and a pack of dogs in the direction of a large deer. Provenance: Drouot sale in the 1960s (document on the back). Good condition, original gilt wood frame, dimensions: 61 cm X 44 cm / at sight: 47.5 cm X 30.5 cm. . Charles Bombled was born on July 6, 1862 in Chantilly, by his full name Louis Charles Bombled de Richemont, he was the son of a Dutch painter Karel-Frédérik Bombled (1822 - 1902). he became a pupil of Luminir and began to exhibit very early. In 1900, he received the gold medal at the Universal Exhibition in Paris. He became particularly popular for his numerous military illustrations: Le Maréchal Foch, Troupe de cavalerie, Les Méharistes and the Napoleonic epic and the war of 1870. He had done a series of paintings for the Petit Théâtre d'Ombres on The Conquest of Algeria. He worked for the newspapers L'Illustration, Le Monde illustré, Le Petit Journal La Caricature, Le Chat noir, the Journal des voyages, and was also the illustrator of the works of Georges Courteline, Jules Michelet, Walter Scott, Fenimore Cooper, among others.
