"Pewter Dish, Saint Etienne, Around 1700"
DISH in pewter with wide wing called "à la cardinal" and molded round edge, entirely forged (the photos of the reverse clearly show the facets witnessing the difficult work of hammering with the aim of tightening the molecules of the metal to obtain more rigidity )
Hallmark of the city: C crowned / 1696 / ST ESTIENNE.
Diameter: 33.2 cm.

In very good condition and of good quality material
Extremely rare provenance, this is the third observation, in more than forty years of frequenting pewter, of the production of this Rhone center.

GENERAL POINTS ON THE MARKING OF PEWTER
THE MASTER'S MARQUE
The royal edicts of 1643 and 1691 specified the configuration of the marks as follows:
For fine pewter (approximately 95% pure pewter): - the name of the master - his date of receipt at the mastery - a symbol of his choice - the quality of the pewter
For common pewter (approximately 90% pure pewter): - the initials of the name and first name of the master - the initial of the city where he practices - a crowned hammer
THE CONTROL MARK
For fine pewter - the year of manufacture - one or two crowned Fs (for FIN) - the name of the city
For common pewter - the year of manufacture - one or two crowned Cs (for COMMON) - the name of the city
