Bust Of Marie-antoinette In Terracotta, After F. Lecomte - 1920
Artist: Félix Lecomte
Bust of Marie-Antoinette in terracotta after Félix Lecomte (1737-1817), French sculptor, notably winner of the Prix de Rome in 1758, and academician. The artist depicts the last queen of France, Marie-Antoinette, her head turned slightly to the right. Her hairstyle made of a braid and curls is completed by a composition of flowers, leaves and berries. The young woman is dressed in lace, concealed under a coat lined with ermine, embroidered with fleur-de-lys, the symbol of royalty, and tied with a cord. She wears a medallion around her neck representing her husband, King Louis XVI. This work rests on a square-based pedestal. We will not be able to remain unmoved by the representation of this woman with a tragic destiny, who wrote the history of France.
