"Bronze Representation Of Athena Nike Foundry Stamp By Auguste Delafontaine"
Bronze subject representing Athena Nike with the mark of the founder Auguste Delafontaine. This bronze is close to a statue discovered in 1828 in the bed of the Versa torrent in Stradella and preserved in the Archaeological Museum of Turin (but with the right arm absent, therefore without the representation of Nike). This subject is inspired by the colossal statue of Athena called Athena Parthenos executed by Phidias for the Parthenon in Athens.
The Delafontaine house was founded in the 18th century by Jean-Baptiste Delafontaine (1750-1820), directed from 1818 to 1840 by Pierre-Maximilien Delafontaine and Auguste-Maximilien until 1885. This Bronze was therefore published between 1840 and 1885.
This bronze being the reproduction of an archaeological discovery, we can see some imperfections of the model with the forearm taken up and which suggests the assembly. note a depression on the circular base. Beautiful dark patina.
