Benjamin ULMANN (1829-1884) Patroclus at Amphidamas, circa 1863 Oil on canvas 21 x 22 cm Signed and dedicated lower right Sketch for the painting at the Salon of 1863; The painting from the 1863 Salon is in the Tessé museum in Le Mans. The Mulhouse library has two preparatory drawings for this painting. Benjamin Ulmann was admitted in 1846 to the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris in the studio of Drolling and then of Picot. Winner of the Prix de Rome in 1859, he spent five years at the Villa Medici.
