Jules Grün was a pupil of Jean-Baptiste Lavastre, painter-decorator of the Paris Opera, and landscape painter Antoine Guillemet. His favorite themes are still lifes, portraits and scenes of Parisian life. On April 12, 1904, Jules Grün married Marie-Juliette Toutain (1877-1948).
