Neo-gothic Canteen Of Cutlery , Cardeilhac, Sterling Silver, 100 Pieces For 12, Ferronnerie
Artist: Armand édouard Ou Ernest Cardeilhac
Very elegant cutlery set of Gothic inspiration in sterling silver. It dates from the second half of the nineteenth century and bears the hallmark of a master goldsmith used between 1851 and 1904, from the prestigious Cardeilhac house in Paris. In the catalogs of manufacturers-goldsmiths of the time, these models inspired by Gothic ironwork are often called "Ferronnerie" or ironwork but sometimes also "Louis XIII" or "Renaissance".
This set is exceptional for several reasons:
It is not engraved with coats of arms or initials.
It is very complete and also has 16 pieces to serve.
The knives still have their original blades signed Cardeilhac, in solid silver for the dessert knives and in steel for the table knives.
The Cardeilhac silversmithy was founded in 1804 and continued to play a major role in the history of French applied arts until it was taken over by Christofle in 1951.
The Musée d'Orsay, the Metropolitan, the Smithsonian and many others renowned museums all have works of art by Cardeilhac in their collections.
