Mahogany Empire Armchair From The Chateau De Pont Sur Seine & The Tuileries - Fremancourt Stamp

Office armchair in carved mahogany with curved straight backrest, armrests mounted in cylinders, gondola-shaped front legs, rear saber legs. Our armchair is richly upholstered in green and tobacco yellow silk adorned with large rosettes and stars (Tassinari and Chatel). It is enhanced with old stripes (in gold thread?). Late Empire period, early 19th century, 1810s. The work is typical of the style of Pierre Antoine Bellangé, but bears the stamp of another cabinetmaker that we do not know: FREMANCOUR. The latter was to be a subcontractor of Bellangé to help him follow orders for Imperial furniture for the official residences of the Empire. Indeed, our seat bears under the belt inventory numbers of the Chateau de Pau P2845 (residence which was refurnished under the July Monarchir and the Second Empire) and another mark crossed out TL or TU 5818, most probably for the Tuileries. We will soon put on sale a second almost identical armchair also bearing the marks of the Chateau de Pau and those of the Palace of Saint Cloud under the Empire, the latter identified with certainty. The Tuileries hypothesis seems quite plausible to us. Beautiful hobbyist model, top quality; our seat is a neat model and not the Empire chair "you see in others". The silk is superb and completely adapted to the style and the period of this seat: the end of the Empire Excellent original condition: no accident to the mahogany, nor redone part. Our seat has been perfectly restored. French polish redone in the traditional way by our cabinetmaker. New silk trim and braiding. Back height: 95cm Seat height: 42cm Width: 59cm Depth: 60cm
