Contemporary glazed blond half-calf, spine with four bands adorned with decorated gilt boxes, title labels in red and dark green morocco. New edition of the first collective published by Furne, Gosselin, Perrotin and Pagnerre in 1836-1852. Each volume is decorated with a frontispiece engraved after Alfred or Tony Johannot, Marckl, Pauquet or Rouargue. This edition includes: Precaution, The Spy, The Pilot, Lionel Lincoln, The Last of the Mohicans, The Pioneers, La Prairie, The Red Corsair, The Puritans of America, The Skimmer of the Seas, The Bravo, The Heidenmauer, The Executioner of Berne, The Monikins, The American Steamer, Eve Effingham, Lake Ontario, Mercedes of Castile, The Deer Killer, The Two Admirals, Le Feu-Follet, On Board and Ashore, Lucie Hardinge, Wyandotté, Satanstoe, The Chain Holder, Ravensnest, The Sea Lions, The Crater, The Manners of the Day. A novelist of the sea and, above all, of the Amerindians of North America, JF Cooper enjoyed great success during his lifetime and influenced the French novelists of the time, Balzac and Hugo often paid homage to him. Beautiful copy nicely bound, which is rare for this edition.
