Large circular CUP in polychrome glazed clay showing seven child drinkers, cups and bunches of grapes. One of them is reclining representing Bacchus as a child; a panther occupies the foreground. The wing is composed of a frieze of daisies alternating with lanceolate motifs. Ocher, brown and green mottled reverse on a beige background. The bottom of the heel is ocher.
Diameter: 12 inches.
LE PRÉ D'AUGE, second half of the 16th century or beginning of the 17th century

Part broken and well restored; the red arrows installed on some shots indicate the main places of the restoration. A few tiny chips on the edge remain. This piece offers a theme rarely treated by these productions: Bacchus' childhood.
Tainturier indicates that this representation is imitated from a composition attributed to Primaticcio for the Château de Fontainebleau.
This bowl is part of the series of so-called “ocher-footed” productions Three examples are kept at the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Louvre and the Petit Palais
Bibliography: Tainturier, Ris, Gibbon and Perrin
