Sculpture - Group Greyhound And King - Charles , Pierre - Jules Mene (1810-1879) - Bronze
Bronze group with shaded brown patina , representing two dogs , a greyhound and a King - Charles , by sculptor Pierre - Jules Mene (1810-1879) .
This group combines on the same terrace , the greyhound with a fan named "PLOCK" and the King Charles dog , which is the counterpart of the"Two greyhounds playing ball"group .
"Plock" is one of the two rare portraits of male sighthounds painted by P.J. Mêne, who rarely represented this animal.
The King Charles , a small , long-haired, dark-haired companion animal from the dwarf spaniel group , is a type of dog particularly favored by King Charles II of England, from whom it takes its name .
By the middle of the 19th century , it was once again much sought-after in English society and in France .
Pierre - Jules Mêne followed this trend with this model .
His work preceded that of the "PLOCK" Greyhound , the second member of the "Greyhound and King - Charles" Group .
Bronze signed "P.J.MÊNE" on the oval naturalistic terrace , representing a carpet and adorned with a fan .
Early edition sculpture , second half of the XIXth century .
Very good condition and patina .
Dimensions : 16 cm x 24.2 cm x 12.5 cm
