"The Adoration Of The Magi, Attributed To Frans Francken III And Workshop, Flanders 17th Century"
The Adoration of the Magi, oil on copper, dimensions 60 cm x 38 cm, with the frame 76 cm x 54 cm, attributed to Frans Francken III and his workshop, mid-17th century. Frans Francken III, born in Antwerp in 1607 and died in the same city on September 4, 1667, was the eldest son of Frans II Francken, known as Rubens Francken. For this Adoration he is inspired by a model of Paul Rubens who was his mentor. All parts of the known world are represented in this tribute to the birth of Jesus, Gaspard who represents Asia offers incense, Melchior Europe offers gold and Balthazar who represents Africa offers myrrh. Unlike the adoration of the shepherds, the painters can play with the colors and the sumptuousness of the costumes of the Magi.
