"18th Century Protrait Painting Guillaume De Saulx"
Superb 18th century oil painting representing Guillaume de Saulx. Guillaume de Saulx, viscount of Tavannes, (1553-1633), eldest son of Gaspard de Saulx, "lieutenant of the king in the absence" (lieutenant of the lieutenant general) in Burgundy from December 1571, during the government of the Duke of Mayenne and the lieutenant general of his father-in-law Léonor Chabot, known as Chabot Charmy. This high quality painting is undoubtedly one inspired by an older model, being 18th century and representing a 17th century character. The expression of the face is very realistic and the colors are vivid and luminous. Presented in a posterior carved and gilded wooden frame.
