"The Genius Of Dance Jean-baptiste Carpeaux"
Bronze statue "The Genius of Dance", representing a dancer in motion, at his feet a cupid waving a fad. Group signed JB CARPEAUX on the base, dated 1873 bearing the Carpeaux Property stamps with the Imperial Eagle. Famous subject taken from the marble group installed in front of the Paris Opera in 1869. Patina of nuanced ocher origin with alterations in age.Tambourine replaced (in accordance with the original). Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux (1827/1875) was born in Valenciennes, he is in Paris in 1838 and learns drawing and sculpture at the School of Decorative Arts. Student of the Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1844 with François Rude as teacher, his talent was rewarded with a Rome Prize in 1854 and resided at the Villa Medici in 1856. Back in France in 1862 and close to Napoleon III (he was a teacher drawing of the Prince Imperial) he obtained numerous public commissions, including the decorations of the Pavillon de Flore at the Louvre. One of the most important French sculptors of the 19th century, today his works are presented and appreciated all over the world.
