Large painting of an important and endearing personality of the Butte Montmartre and Parisian life at the beginning of the 20th century.
Géo Cim, alias Georges Pilley, was born on October 16, 1883 in Saint Germain-les-Lure (Haute-Saône). he spent his early youth with the small peasants with whom he shared the laughter and the jokes. After his secondary studies, his father, established as a dentist in Lure, sent him to take his enrollment at the dental school located rue de la Tour d'Auvergne in Montmartre. On the Butte, he meets the literary man Albert Cim who becomes his spiritual father, of whom he bears the pseudonym.
Raoul Dufy presents him to Fernand Cormon's studio where he begins his pictorial initiation. From then on, he devoted himself to plastic art, he was proclaimed "the painter of beggars"; his works, several of which were acquired by the State, appear in museums and private collections, in France and abroad.
During the "great slaughter" 14-18, as an alpine hunter and military dentist, he behaved in an exemplary manner: three times injured, including very seriously in front of the Chemin des Dames on June 29, 1917; at the Soissons hospital, the surgeon Vianney assisted by the military doctor Georges Duhamel saved his life. Geo Cim's greatest pride is to be a child under the Life of the Martyrs "of the eminent academician, who later will obtain the red ribbon for him, serving as his godfather to the Order of the Legion of Honor. Géo Cim also holds three citations, one of which has the order of the army, signed Philippe Pétain, the military medal, Croix de guerre with palms, commemorative medal of Verdun etc.
He received from the hands of Pope Pius X the order of Chevalier de Saint-Jean-de-Lantran as lieutenant of the "young guard" during the pilgrimage to Rome of the "Sillon" directed by Marc Sangnier.
