"Mater Dolorosa Carved Boxwood, Small 17th Century Monstrance"
Small oval high relief sculpture, a boxwood medallion, finely carved on this small surface: Virgin in Majesty, seated, spreads her veils to receive her crucified Child, who presents the stigmata and the crown of thorns. This representation is infrequent, we more often see the Virgin weeping and defeated.
17th century French Baroque work, as well as the frame.
Medallion is set in a bronze frame formerly plated of silver, silvering of which some vestiges remain.
