Important bronze by the lawyer Jules Destrée, Pierre de Soete, 1930, unique piece, probably an order, the foundry stamp is difficult to decipher. Jules Destrée is a Belgian politician, doctor of law born in Marcinelle on August 21, 1863 and died in Brussels on January 2, 1936. Humanist bourgeois, the trials following the strikes of 1886 will determine his commitment to the Belgian Workers' Party, the ancestor of the Socialist Party. Pierre de Soete (1886-1948) was orphaned at the age of fourteen. He enrolled at the Molenbeek Drawing Academy while learning to self-taught modeling. He apprenticed at the Compagnie des Bronzes and met sculptors, notably Julien Dillens, Constantin Meunier and even Jef Lambeaux. Working full time as a sculptor from 1924, he received numerous commissions, among others for war memorials. He excels in subjects such as motherhood, sports and dance.
