CornelisHuysmans , better known Huysmans of Malines, Flemish painter, born in Antwerp in 1648, died in Mechelen in 1727. Huysmans de Malines is one of the greatest landscape painters that Flanders has produced.
Our painting is an Acadian landscape which perfectly illustrates the painter's style with landscapes filled with excellent small figures of humans and animals, compositions with a well-marked character, which makes them easily recognizable; they are admirable not only for their picturesque arrangement, but for a keen sense of nature.
One of his four Forest Interiors in the Louvre Museum is the only painting, with a superb navy by J. Ruysdael, which supports Rembrandt's overwhelming neighborhood of the Good Samaritan. Our painting is an excellent work to perfect a scholarly and erudite hanging.
Outside the Louvre, Huysmans de Mechelen has numerous works in the museums of Brussels, London, Edinburgh, Rouen, Dresden, Berlin, Munich, Saint-Petersburg, New York.
