Oil on canvas, The Lighthouse of Foutes by Oudot OUDOT

Roland OUDOT

Born July 29, 1897 in Paris. Died July 17, 1981 in Paris. Twentieth century. French.

Genre painter, figures, landscapes, still lifes, gouache painter, watercolorist, draftsman, painter of wall compositions, painter of theater sets, engraver, illustrator

. It was at the National School of Decorative Arts in Eugène Morand's studio that he came to ask, from 1912 to 1915, for the disciplines of his art; a school which has never had to suffer the reproach of imposing academic lapses on its students, but which the wind of revolutions will never shake.

He took lessons there, he was one of the best students with a bright future. He worked until his death with Léon Bakst, notably in 1923 for the Ballets Russes. Between 1919-1920, he produced designs for the Sue and Mare companies for fabric and furniture projects. He will participate in numerous exhibitions: 1919 Salon d'Automne, 1925, Salon des Tuileries, Salon des Peintres Témoins de leur Temps, 1936, Galerie Druet, as well as in New York but also in London, at the Galerie Wildenstein, in Switzerland, in Zurich.

His admiration for Brother Le Nain will mark the beginning of his work, with immobility in the landscape and the characters. His work will evolve under the influence of Bonnard and will transform his paintings from a rigid 20s realism to a more sensitive and poetic work. We also owe him the decorations of the Palais de Chaillot, one of the rooms of the liner De Lesseps. He also makes cartoons for the Gobelins and Aubusson. He also creates costume for the theater and illustrates Sylvie by Gérard de Nerval or Thérese Desqueyroux by François Mauriac.
