Object description :

"Louis XV Period Tomb Commode, Crowned C Bronzes"
"Louis XV Period Tomb Commode, Crowned C Bronzes" "Louis XV Period Tomb Commode, Crowned C Bronzes" Curved tomb commode, inlaid in amaranth quarte-leaves underlined by milling of the same essence. It opens with four drawers in three rows separated by dark brass grooves. Rich ornamentation of chiseled and gilded bronzes: falls from angles in Spanish, drop handles with cornucopias, apron, keyholes, clogs decorated with acanthus. Bronzes marked with crowned C. Good condition, original locks, bronzes with their original gilding marked with crowned C. height 86xwidth 130x depth 63 This chest of drawers can be compared to a model by Mathieu Criaerd or François Mondon circa 1745/1749 Crowned C hallmark This hallmark is found on certain bronzes, it attests to a metal tax in force between 1745 and 1749. Its presence allows us to precisely date the production of a piece of furniture. The crowned C has also become a hallmark of quality for collectors, it only seems to have been carved on the most refined bronzes. Source: Revue objet d'art n ° 320, page 46/54, January 1998
