Portrait of Valentine Julie de Contades (1824/1900) by René Théodore Berthon 1776/1849 portrait of Valentine Julie Contades future duchess of Luynes after her engagement with the Duke Honoré Louis of Albert de Luynes. Provenance: Castle of Dampierre, Family of Luynes Signed: Berthon in lower left Technique: Oil on canvas of dimensions Dimensions: With Frame: Length: 150 cm Width: 130cm Hors cadre: Length: 119 cm Width: 97 cm It is a centerpiece for the artist. The subject represented and the provenance are historical. René Théodore Berthon (1776/1849) This artist had for master David: he alternately made the genre, history and portrait. He lived in Vienna and Venice, and will not return to Paris until 1805. He exhibited there for the first time at the salon in 1796: Cloé in the bath. Before leaving for Vienna, he painted the portrait of the 1st consul, who appeared in the portrait of 1801. On his return he painted: the surrender of Ulm (Museum of Versailles) which the Emperor ordered him. He has done many portraits for larger families. Museums: Bordeaux, Dubin, Versailles.
