The subject represented and the provenance are historical. René Théodore Berthon (1776/1849) This artist had for master David: he alternately made the genre, history and portrait. He lived in Vienna and Venice, and will not return to Paris until 1805. He exhibited there for the first time at the salon in 1796: Cloé in the bath. Before leaving for Vienna, he painted the portrait of the 1st consul, who appeared in the portrait of 1801.
