Object description :

"A Regence Candlestickd With Alliance Weapons Circa 1720."
Rare candlestick or candlesticks in gilded and gilded bronze, Regence era weapons alliance. Hexagonal chisel mounted on a double shoulder, capped with a cylindrical bobeche. This element confirms the fact that they were not intended for the use of candelabra but to receive the candles directly. The barrel screwed on the base consists of three identical faces decorated with rocaille shells and nets. Each face is assembled one to the other in their length; this assembly confers on this candlestick a very particular typology with a 6-faceted barrel consisting of an alternation of enlarged faces decorated with a shell pattern and nets and narrow faces without decor traversed longitudinally not the weld lines. The barrel is aimed on the bell, cylindrical polylobed shower feet where are chiselled the arms of the two married by a crown of marquis. Dimensions height 24.5cm diameter 14.5cm. For the ceremony of alliance, it was customary for the wife to face the use of these coats of arms. The arms of alliance are in the form of the two conquered crowns, the dexter husband and his sinister father (right and left) the two crowns being topped with a crown according to the rank of the husband; for the case, a marquis crown.
