"Chalice And Patene In Silver Gold, France (1819-1838)"
Chalice and paten in silver, provincial work of the early nineteenth century (1819-1838) region of Arles or Aix. Chalice is in three elements (foot-stem, cut and false-cut) with repoussé decor, chiseled, chiseled in mat and in low relief. The terrace of the foot is decorated with three oval medallions containing respectively three Eucharistic symbols: the Radiant Cross, Sacred Heart, The Heart of the Virgin Mary pierced with seven swords and between these medallions bouquets of ears of wheat, bunches of grapes and rushes. The cavet of the foot is highlighted with a frieze combining acanthus leaves and water leaves. The stem consists of two collars and a fairly massive and harmonious ovoid knot with the same decoration as the cavet. The false-cut decoration is perforated, with a pattern of broad gadroons in its lower part and present alternately a decoration consisting of wheat, grapes, reeds and three round medallions representing instruments of passion and Holy Face. Chalice carries the hallmarks of the title, the guarantee and the hallmark of Master Goldsmith (undetermined) with the initials: JBB height: 26,5 cm Foot diameter: 15,5 cm Calice weight: 594 gr Circular patène in silver gilt and engraved, with center, of the monogram of Christ. Punch Rooster (traces of use) Diameter: 14,7 cm Weight: 104 gr Ensemble is in good condition without shocks or repairs.
