Old gouache on paper depicting a Napoleonic battle scene. French work of the early nineteenth century. Typical work of the artist Henri-Joseph Van Blarenberghe: Original frame measuring 35.5cm x 26cm In good condition, some damp spots. born October 10, 1741 in Lille, died December 1, 1826 in the same city, is a French painter. Military painter under the kingship, but also painter of the Revolution, he often collaborates with his father, Louis-Nicolas van Blarenberghe. He paints miniatures and panoramas. The majority of his works are in gouache, but he also uses black chalk, watercolor, or oil painting. Specialist battle scenes, as a military painter, he painted battle situations for the Army or military ports such as that of Brest for the Navy, before the French Revolution. During the French Revolution he painted the taking of the Bastille, as well as the ball of the Bastille which takes place there the following year. He also paints castles, like that of Chanteloup, and the pagoda of his garden. Master of drawing of young princes in Versailles, Henri-Joseph Van Blarenberghe was also the first curator of the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Lille.
