Our canvas is a talented resumption of the religious work exhibited at the Pitti Palace in Florence by Raphael -
Inscriptions in Italian on the frame: M Corlini (In 1749 a scholar named M Corlini participated in a work called Journal des savants, volume 82 .. has he studied or owned this canvas?) -
This tondo, evoking the idea of perfection achieved at the beginning of the 16th century is an emblematic work of Raphael.
The Virgin Mary holds the infant Jesus in her arms. Saint John the Baptist looks at the Son of God while the other two figures look at the spectator.
A great tenderness emerges from the whole, the inclination of his head perfectly matching the round shape of the tondo.
The present chair gave its name to the painting. Note that Mary wears a veil, we can see here a sign of the destiny of her son. Very good condition except for a touch-up on the sleeve of the Virgin Mary -
