Conical Crest Mask - Igbo / Ibo - Nigeria

Igbos is one of Nigeria's three great nations. They are mainly located in the south-eastern part of the country (bordered by Benue to the north and the Niger River to the west), but they also constitute an important part of the population of the two main cities of the country: Lagos to the west and Kano to the north. The masks traditions are very vivid in this ethnic group and the number of variants of these masks important. This type of conical mask is quite unusual and we lack knowledge about it. At best it can be located as coming from the Nsukka region. See similar example on page 136 of the book Igbo Arts, community & cosmos. Good general with cracks and slight gaps, this mask is partly ravine, see photos. Height 50 cm, diameter of the base 28 cm.
