A carved marble head of goddess Venus
Roman era, 2nd century AD
Face of the goddess Venus (Aphrodite) in carved marble, representing her from the front, the hair divided by a parting into thick wavy bands, surrounded by a smooth band or tiara, the missing nose, the mouth formerly made of metal (the two holes are visible).
It is a calm and expressionless face, still very classic.
The flat back, not sculpted.
Lacks and damages.
Roman period, 2nd century AD.
H. 16 x L. 11.5 cm.
Mounted on a modern metal base (H. 23 cm in total).
