"Rare Travelling Corkscrew With A Swivelling Fob Seal. English, Circa. 1720."


A rare bronze travelling corkscrew with a swivelling fob seal. 

English, circa. 1720.

Measures 4.4 x 2.6cm.

The folding corkscrew is set with a triple-faced swivelling fob steel, to include;

- A heraldic horned goat’s head on a torse.

- Atlas with the Latin motto “MAGNUM OPUS”, which translates as ‘a great work’.

- A profile of King George I, with the inscription “GEORGIUS DEI.G.”

The bronze shoulders are decorated with acanthus leaf design, typical of the period. 

The goat is the crest for the following families - Amenton, Atwood, Blackburn, Calamount, Chyner and Lingwood.
