Peter Behrens worked in Karlsruhe and Düsseldorf, as well as in Munich where he was one of the main artists of Art Nouveau. Among other things, he is considered to be one of the pioneers of industrial design. The kiss, an icon of Art Nouveau, is one of the artist's most famous works and fully embodies the fin de siècle spirit.
