Rare plate by Karel Appel, This one comes from the studio of Jeannette Leroy Painter and ceramist in Montmartre. In 1953 Karel Appel often spent with friends Soulage and Zao Wou Ki and other avant-garde artists. Jeannette told me that he took clay to make some ceramics. The plate is signed and dedicated to Jeannette. We compared the earth of a small sculpture and my plate, they are identical.The plate comes from the collection of Marc Pairon friend of Karel Appel and author of the book on Charles Catteau. We found a painting sold at Christie's with the same mention for Jeannette 1954. On the back of the ceramic we find fingerprints. confirms that the work is authentic.
