Bonheur du jour from the Louis XVI period, in mahogany and molded mahogany veneer on all sides. The upper part has a step opening by two leaves fitted with mirrors. It opens as a belt with two drawers and a mahogany tablet revealing a compartment. In the lower part, it opens with three slatted curtains, two of which are on the side, revealing a tablet in Saint Anne gray marble. Uprights with rudent fluted endings in tapered legs with wheels. Bronze side grips. Veined gray marble top surrounded by an openwork brass gallery. Stamped J-M-SCHILLER. Jean Martin Schuller dit Schiller, received Master in 1781. H. 108 cm. L. 55 cm. P. 38 cm Very good original condition (a corner of the marble restored) Condition report and technical photographs on request. The documentation gives us very few examples with comparable architecture. A happiness of the day stamped by Jean Georges RAISIN, received master in 1755, presenting three slatted curtains was sold at auction in July 2012. It is most likely a piece of furniture combining the functions of Bonheur du jour in the upper part and snack table in the lower part. Biography: Born near Leipzig, Schiler began his career as a free craftsman and settled in rue Saint Nicolas. He became a master in 1781 and around 1788 moved to rue du Faubourg Saint-Antoine. His Transition style furniture, often inlaid with landscapes, is well made. But the majority of his works, chests of drawers, secretaries, backgammon tables... Are in the Louis XVI style, in mahogany, with very clean and well-balanced lines. The Château de Fontainebleau retains a large Louis XVI dining room table
