Empire Andirons With Sphinx In Bronze
Superb and elegant pair of Empire period bronze andirons in 2 tones. They rest on twisted feet and the gilt bronze terrace surportant the Sphinx is ornamented in its center with a decoration including a face, foliage and finely chiseled ribbon. The bronze-brown sphinx is of superb carving quality, with great finesse in the details of the face and the wings. The complete set with the metal supports on the back allowing the maintenance of the logs. High quality French work from the beginning of the 19th century in excellent condition.
