After the publication of a first work stamped with a letter of cachet, he fled to London, where he learned English & the history of England. He then travels to Holland. Then he returned to France, where he ended his life with the Benedictines. The title 'Manon Lescaut' was considered scandalous, seized and sentenced to be burned.
