"Mezzaro Veil Of Genoa 1850 Alle Vacchette Tree Of Life Speich"
Mezzaro or veil of Genoa belonging to the type "with small cows" ("a vacchette"), characteristic of the production of the Speich factory and dating from the middle of the 19th century. At the center of the composition is the tree of life emerging from a hill. A symbol already used in the culture of ancient Mesopotamia, the tree was conceived as an element capable of connecting the three parts of the universe: the basement, dominated by magical forces, where its roots descend; the surface of the earth, the kingdom of men, where the stem grows and develops; the sky, place of the divine, towards which tends the foliage. At the base of the tree a squirrel (symbol of foresight and care) and a peacock (symbol of immortality) resting on a vine branch bent by clusters and flowers. On the sides a deer, goats and cows. Birds of all kinds and butterflies fly among the flowering branches of peonies, daisies and roses. The whole is very fresh. There are, however, a few halos. It has been enlarged with strips of brown cotton that would have to be dismantled.
