Beautiful Napoleon III period mantelpiece. Composed of a beautiful clock surmounted by a vase with garlands with floral decoration falling on its pedestal, a first painting on porcelain of a cherub decorates the dial then a romantic scene held by two sphinxes composes the continuation of the decoration. The base of the clock is in gilded bronze on which a mascaron is carved adorning a drapery, the whole resting on four gadrooned top feet. The two cassolettes of the garnish consist of the same elements as those present on the clock and each takes up one of the characters from the romantic scene. The clock is functional.
